bio

Marta Lallana (Zaragoza, Spain, 1994) is a filmmaker and screenwriter whose work moves between fiction and documentary. Her films are often rooted in specific places and communities, exploring questions of memory, identity, belonging, and the ways people negotiate their relationship with landscapes in transformation.

She co-directed her feature debut Ojos Negros (2019), which won the Silver Biznaga for Best Spanish Film at the Málaga Film Festival and was selected at festivals including San Sebastián, BAFICI and Cinespaña, among others. The film received nominations for both the Gaudí and Feroz Awards.

Her second feature, Muyeres (2023), a hybrid film inspired by the oral singing traditions of rural Asturias, premiered at the Shanghai International Film Festival, where it received the Jury Grand Prix and the award for Best Cinematography. The film went on to screen internationally and received several distinctions, including awards at SEMINCI, Cinespaña and the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival.

Alongside her personal film work, she has written and directed the documentary series Terenci: The Endless Fable (Filmin, 2024) and has worked as a director for television programmes such as Salvados and Lo de Évole.

She is currently developing her third feature film, Paraíso, supported by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC). Her recent work focuses on characters navigating states of transition, displacement and fragile forms of belonging, continuing an ongoing interest in how individuals attempt to imagine and build new ways of living together.
